Charles Carroll, III, MD

Dr. Charles Carroll, a microscopic and arthroscopic hand and shoulder surgery specialist, is the director of hand and upper extremity surgery at the Neurologic & Orthopedic Institute of Chicago. Board certified in orthopedic and hand surgery, Dr. Carroll focuses on microvascular surgery, hand surgery and upper extremity orthopedic surgery. He provides care for problems of the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. At NOHC, he will also provide hand, shoulder and upper extremity therapy services as part of his operative and rehabilitation care.

Dr. Carroll earned his Medical Degree with honors from the University of Maryland and completed surgical and orthopedic training at Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospital . He trained in hand surgery at Indiana University and The Indiana Hand Center, with additional training in microsurgery at the University of Louisville and in shoulder surgery at the University of Western Ontario.

As an Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. Carroll actively trains residents in orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, and emergency room medicine. For first-year medical students, Dr. Carroll also teaches communication skills, and he continues to lecture and publish in orthopedics.

Formerly a commanding and executive officer with the U.S. Navy Reserve, Dr. Carroll was the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, Il., during Operation Desert Storm. He is married and lives on Chicago's north shore with his wife and three children.
