Demetrius Klee Lopes, M.D.
Demetrius Klee Lopes, M.D., is medical director of the Neurovascular and Stroke Prevention Program at the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago, Director of the CINN Neurovascular and Stroke Intervention Program; and an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiology at Rush Medical College, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois.
Recognized as a pioneer in his field, Dr. Lopes is the most experienced endovascular neurosurgeon in the Chicago area. He is highly skilled in an innovative approach to the treatment of brain and spinal cord diseases from inside the blood vessels, called endovascular therapy. Dr. Lopes specializes in the removal of blood clots in the brain, the opening of clogged and diseased blood vessels and the treatment of weaknesses in the blood vessel walls called aneurysms. He also is highly accomplished in all three areas of treatment used for arteriovenous malformations.
Bilingual in Portuguese and English, Dr. Lopes graduated from medical school at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre , Brazil . Following medical school, Dr. Lopes moved to Chicago where he completed surgical internships at the University of Illinois and Cook County Hospitals . Dr. Lopes completed a residency in neurosurgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo .
Following his residency, Dr. Lopes pursued an endovascular fellowship at the State University of New York at Buffalo . Dr. Lopes joined CINN in 2001.
