Sami Rosenblatt, MD

Sami Rosenblatt, M.D., with over 10 years of neurological surgery experience, joined the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch (CINN) in October 2005. He is a board certified neurosurgeon and an assistant professor of Neurosurgery at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. His practice comprises various aspects of general neurosurgery including the treatment of brain tumors, aneurysms, arterial malformations as well as conditions caused by degenerative spine disease and spine tumors. Dr. Rosenblatt's special interests include cerebrovascular and skull base surgery. He is dedicated to the neurosurgical treatment of a variety of chronic pain disorders. He is known to employ various treatment modalities for trigeminal neuralgia such as stereotactic radiosurgery, microvascular decompression and electrofrequency rhizotomy. Furthermore he has significant experience in implanting dorsal column spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal morphine pumps for chronic pain of various etiologies. In addition, Dr. Rosenblatt has a large series of intrathecal baclofen pump implants in patients with multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries. His interest in skull base tumors, including acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, pituitary tumors and head and neck malignancies, is reflected in many publications.

Dr. Rosenblatt earned his medical degree in 1980 from the University of Düsseldorf, School of Medicine in Germany. He thereafter completed his internship at the University Hospital in Essen (West Germany) cancer center and completed his residency in Neurosurgery at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois in 1994. Following his residency, Dr. Rosenblatt continued his specialty training with a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Mayfield Neurological Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. During his training, he completed research fellowships at The House Ear Institute in Los Angeles and The Stroke Research Laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Rosenblatt has published numerous articles and book chapters on various aspects of cerebrovascular surgery and skull base surgery. He runs an active skull base dissection laboratory and has lectured most frequently about innovative approaches to the treatment of cranial based tumors.

Dr. Rosenblatt is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, The Congress of Neurological Surgeons, The American Medical Association, Joint Section of Cerebrovascular Surgeons, Joint Section of Disorder of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves.
