Key Information for Your Visit

If you or a family member are having tests at NOHC or are being admitted and need preadmission testing, here is key information for your visit:

    • NOHC is located at 4501 North Winchester Avenue. (Please click here for more detail on maps & directions)

    • Valet service is available at the main entrance at Sunnyside and Winchester Avenues. A self-park covered lot is also available one block south of Wilson and Damen Avenues.

    • When you arrive, enter the hospital through the emergency department entrance located at the corners of Sunnyside and Winchester. The reception desk staff will greet you and assist you to the correct location.

Planning for Testing or Preadmission Testing

Please verify with your physician the type and timing of your tests. For preadmission testing, patients should not schedule other appointments on the day of that testing. Depending on the number of tests you will undergo, the appointment could last between two and eight hours. You may spend time waiting between tests, so we suggest you bring a book, magazine, or a project to work on while you wait.

Please carefully read any information your physician has given you. You should be aware that some tests involve taking a sedative to help you relax. In that case, arrange to have someone drive you home after your appointment is complete.

If you live outside the Chicago area, your preadmission testing may be performed at another hospital or a healthcare facility near your home. We ask that these results be faxed to us two to three days prior to your admission. Fax information to (773) 250-0991. Your nurse may also ask you to bring the results with you on the day of your admission. (Note: X rays cannot be faxed.)

Planning for Admission

If you are scheduled to be admitted to NOHC, we recommend you bring some essentials with you. Click here for a list of what to bring. You will also want a copy of our brochure: Patient's Guide to the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago.

An Institute representative will call you to confirm admission details, including insurance and timing. If you have any questions regarding your scheduled admission, you should call your physician's office staff. If you are having surgery, an anesthesiologist will call you the day or evening before your scheduled admission and ask you questions about your general health, allergies, previous surgeries, and past reactions to different anesthetics. If unable to reach you at home, the anesthesiologist will talk with you after you are admitted.
