About Quality
Today's healthcare consumers are increasingly involved in their care and treatment. More than ever, they ask questions, investigate choices, and make informed decisions. At NOHC, we support that initiative-with more choices, more options, and a passionate focus on providing quality, individualized care.
To support our patients and their need to be informed decision makers, NOHC participates in a number of quality initiatives. First and most basic: we are fully accredited, without recommendations for improvement, by the Joint Commission on Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). An independent body, JCAHO evaluates more than 18,000 hospitals nationwide, surveying facilities with a comprehensive set of criteria and recognizing hospitals that meet these performance standards.
Patient Satisfaction
NOHC also has a program to survey patients and measure patient satisfaction. By constantly assessing our service, care, and the patient experience, we are continually raising the bar on patient satisfaction.
Measuring Quality
Recently the State of Illinois signed the Illinois Hospital Report Card Act (IHRCA) into law with the goal of making more information and data available to Illinois' healthcare consumers. Under the law, hospitals are required to file performance data, such as nurse to patient ratios or nursing hours worked per shift, with the Department of Public Health. NOHC supports the Act and as we report our data, and as the state compiles and issues it, the information will be available at www.idph.state.il.us.
NOHC and CMS Hospital Compare Program
The Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago is a participant in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service's (CMS) "Hospital Compare" web site and quality data program. The initial phases of the program cover measures related to pneumonia and cardiac disease, conditions that are not typically treated at NOHC. Therefore, our listing will not show data for these conditions. Later this year when the program begins to report data on surgical infection, we will be reporting on those measures.
